Style/Iconography of My Product

These are the different types of fonts that I thought best represented the dance music genre. One of the reasons why I chose Disco Nights, is because of the fact that it is a bold font and with the lines going through it, it creates the effect of lights streaming through and this could be use by changing the colour or adding a different background. Also, it would be easy to re-create in Photoshop with the use of a rubbing tool. The second font which I think works best for the dance music genre, is the Neon 80s. A reason for this is that if the font was much thinner,I think it would be good to create a font and changing the colour, making it look like the title is in lights to create that dance effect.

These magazine covers are from the dance magazine ‘Mix Mag’ and I find the style of these front covers good and inspirational. What I like about the first front cover is even though the main image doesn’t have a lot of lighting, the viewer is still able to see who it is that’s on the front cover . Also the colour theme works really well, because the artists is wearing the American Flag colours, and that is resembled in the colour of the font used on the rest of the magazine. The second cover is of the artist ‘LaRoux’ and what  I like about this, is the fact there is more than one image on the front cover. For example, in the bottom left corner there is a large feature which takes up a quarter of the image, despite there being a lot more on the front cover as well, making the front cover look more full compared to the rest. The final front cover is of the artists ‘Daft Punk, and what I like about this front cover is the use of different colours  and the blue background which makes them stand out  due to  colours that they’re wearing. Also, the way that the photo is taken of the artists , the use of a two shot that works effectively. Overall, I find ‘Mix Mag’ an inspiration for dance music and some of their ideas on the front cover  are good and something that you wouldn’t usually see on a front cover.
These are posters of artists  who are part of the dance music genre. The first thing that I noticed about the posters that I have chose are the fact that they're either drawn posters of edited posters. For example, Daft Punks posters look as though they're hand drawn and because of how basic they are it makes them look effective and represent are certain time when these sort of posters would have been around. Whereas artists like Calvin Harris and Nicki Minaj have much more modern ones through the use of Photoshop. Calvin Harris' looks more futuristic whereas Nicki Minaj's looks as though it would belong at a party due to the bright colours and the props and make-up that has been used, along with the colour scheme.

The dance music genre has an iconography of bright colours which are mainly used through to attract the audiences who like this specific genre. These album covers all have the use of bright colours and are often very simple, rather than being over the top compared to other genres which sometimes are. What I like about these front covers are how each one are completely different from one another, but are easily to recognise  and who the artist is. Mark Ronsons album cover  has a mixture of different colours as well as different shades, but also the way that it has been designed.

The themes that I though the audience would be interested in are:

  • Concerts
  • Artists
  • Events
  • Free Gifts
One of the most themes that audiences are interested in are Artists because they are on the front cover and that could be the reason why they buy the magazine, But because this is one of the main themes, this means that the audience will be interested to know what it is that the Artist is doing on the front cover. Another theme is concerts, many artists perform all year round and the people who attend the concerts all appear to have that common interest which is the artists performing. The Events that are wrote about in other music magazines make the theme interest the audience for many reasons. One of them is that they are many types of events that the audience attends and they will all know what happened at the events so to make the audience interested, a review could be written up about it. Also, free gifts also help keep the audience interested because with each magazine that they buy they will receive something in return, whether it's a music voucher of a CD.
